Our Educator Forever team is made up of educators like you, and we’ve all been classroom teachers at one point. While we’re now focused on work beyond the classroom, we know how overwhelming it can be to start making that career shift!
We’re here cheering you on and reminding you that you can successfully transition beyond the classroom to a rewarding, sustainable career.
This week we’re sharing some of the many things we love about life beyond the classroom, and we hope it encourages you to take action toward creating a career and life you love!
What It’s Like to Work Beyond the Classroom
There are so many flexible jobs for teachers available today, from curriculum design and education writing to online teaching, tutoring and consulting. Explore what our team has to say about the best parts of work beyond the classroom.
Jasmine Gibson, Editorial Project Manager
I love the flexibility! I can choose the best chunks of time (and locations) to work based on my needs and those of my family. I love being able to work on all different kinds of projects, which keep me engaged and excited.
I love all the connections I have made working with people, organizations, and companies from all over the world.
April Brown, Learning & Development Manager
I love expanding my impact beyond the classroom in a multitude of ways. I’ve tried so many things over the years including virtual instructional coaching, facilitating wellness sessions for educators, and designing inclusive and responsive curricula for kids and grown-ups.
Instead of feeling boxed in as a classroom teacher, I’ve honed the skills I already possessed as an educator and realized I have endless ways to contribute to the field of education and advocate for change. It’s also easy to stay rooted in hope when you’re surrounded by incredible educators driving change at macro and micro levels.
Evonne Hall, Program Coordinator
I love the fact that I’m not constantly driven to rush through everything. Though there are deadlines to meet and things that must be done, it never feels as harried as when I was in the classroom. I can actually eat lunch, work around my busy family schedule, and take time with the lessons I design.
I can also take the time to get to know my virtual students and create learning experiences that are better tailored to their needs. It’s an amazing experience to feel like I’m making an impact without the constant levels of stress and overwhelm. It is truly freeing and fulfilling!
Lily Jones, CEO of Educator Forever
I love that I have the agency and ability to create my own path. As a classroom teacher, I felt stuck in a system that didn’t always align with my values and desires. My voice only went so far and I was constantly exhausted.
I love that I’ve been able to build a more sustainable life and expand my impact by learning from others, trying new things, and committing to intentionally creating the life that I want for myself, my family, my community, and beyond.
Allison Williams, Business Mentor (and owner of Tutor Tots Online)
I love working with families, students, and educators from all over the United States. Life beyond the "traditional" classroom has allowed me to connect with people from different regions who bring diverse perspectives, ideas, and learning experiences.
Building a network of colleagues, educators, and families from around the world has ultimately helped me to make a greater impact in bridging the gap between homeschooling and virtual education.
Blair Petersen, Marketing Manager
I love the freedom I have now that I'm working beyond the classroom. I enjoy being able to work from anywhere. It's so freeing not to be tied to a school calendar (or daily schedule). I have a better work-life balance, and I take much better care of myself.
It's a joy to get to continue to still work in education and to still work with awesome people (former teachers!). It's also refreshing to work on projects that are changing education for the better.
